It started with a blessing. It became a movement.

HOW DSATB BEGAN

Built from family.
Driven by advocacy.

What began as one family's journey became a community committed to changing how Down syndrome is understood, supported and celebrated throughout Tampa Bay.

2018 DSATB Founded

The story of the Down Syndrome Association of Tampa Bay begins with Craig Woodard Sr. and his son, Craig Jr. Craig Jr. was born with Down syndrome in 2014. His birth inspired Craig Sr. to become heavily involved in advocacy and awareness for the Down syndrome community.

In 2015, Craig became vice president of a local Down syndrome organization, where one of his major responsibilities was organizing Tampa Bay's Buddy Walk. The event raised about $39,000 in its first year and more than $62,000 in its second, while also gaining television and radio exposure.

In January 2018, Craig Sr. and six other like-minded individuals founded the Down Syndrome Association of Tampa Bay. The organization grew from their desire to advocate for individuals with Down syndrome, educate the public, support families, promote inclusion and create a stronger community throughout Tampa Bay.

What began with a small group of people determined to make a difference has grown into a community dedicated to supporting individuals with Down syndrome and the families who stand beside them.

Through education, advocacy, programs, community partnerships and meaningful conversations, DSATB works to challenge misconceptions, create opportunities and ensure individuals with Down syndrome are seen for their abilities, their potential and the value they bring to our communities.

Today, that commitment is represented by one message: #21Strong.

Meet the people
behind 21 Strong.

Dedicated advocates, professionals and community leaders working together to support individuals with Down syndrome and their families throughout Tampa Bay.
