Our Classes
3.21 Art Class
Our 3.21 Art Class was the first program that we offered. The class is currently led by our ancillary board member, Mercedes Anderson. During the class, we offer free speech therapy and occupational therapy services. Our occupational therapist, Susan Brindise, works alongside our art teacher to add occupational therapy elements to the lesson, with focuses such as fine motor skills. Our speech therapist, Carey Schumacher Zeithaml, visits the lessons and offers pull out services.
DSATB’S Life Skills Class
DSATB also offers a life skills class led by instructor Shelbea Houston. Participants learn about important life skills, such as hand washing.
Dance Classes Held By “Dancing for A Difference”
Ancillary board member, Sara Battaglia, offers free dance classes for our members. Check our calendar to see when our next class is!
Embrace Your Inner Diva Makeup Class
Communications Director, Che Counce-Maida, leads one of our newest classes, the Embrace Your Inner Diva Makeup Class. Classes focus on different makeup looks and techniques. DSATB provides free makeup products and tools for our participants to use. This class is held on Sundays. Check our events calendar to see when the next class is.
DSATB’S Fitness Club
DSATB’S Fitness Club is another one of our newer programs. This class is led by fitness instructor and ancillary board member, Jazzy Parris.
Services
IEP Advocate
DSATB offers IEP Advocacy Scholarships. Our IEP advocate is Ashley Rivera. Please reach out to us if you would like her to attend your child’s IEP meeting in order to ensure your child receives what is legally theirs.
In order to qualify you must be a member of the Down Syndrome Association of Tampa Bay and have attended at least two DSATB events or programs over the last two quarters. Speech Therapy
DSATB offers free speech therapy services that take place the third Sunday of every month during our 3.21 Art Class. Our speech therapist is Carey Schumacher Zeithmal. Carey meets with our parents to discuss the goals that they have for their child. From there, she offers tailored services for all of our members.
Occupational Therapy
DSATB also offers free occupational therapy services that take place the third Sunday of each month during our 3.21 Art Class. Our occupational therapist is Susan Brindise. Susan also meets with our parents to discuss the goals that they have for their child. She often works alongside of our art teacher to plan lessons that target fine motor skills.
